Career Summary
Rory is a Chartered Engineer with three decades of experience in fire safety engineering consultancy in Ireland and the UK. After completing an MSc in Fire Safety Engineering at the University of Ulster, Rory began his professional career as a Fire Engineer with Lawrence Webster Forrest (LWF), London, before returning to Ireland. Rory set up McShane & Associates, which he ran as an independent fire consultancy practice until becoming a founding partner in setting up Maurice Johnson & Partners Ltd with four former colleagues in 2009
As Principal Fire Engineer at MJP, Rory has been central to the development of the company as Ireland’s leading Fire Engineering and Access Consultancy and leads MJPs healthcare portfolio of projects.
In addition to his consultancy work, Rory is also a Lecturer in Fire Safety Engineering at ATU Donegal (since 2001), with responsibility for the delivery of core fire safety engineering design modules on the BEng Hons programme in Fire Safety Engineering, including Applications of Fire Engineering Design, Fire Safety Design, Fire Protection Systems Design and Structural Fire Engineering. In addition to periodic roles as an Internal Examiner on research to master’ Degree level in Fire Safety Engineering and cognate areas.
Rory is also an Approved Inspector with An Bord Pleanala on appeals in relation to Part B Fire Safety of the Building Regulations.
