Rory is a Chartered Engineer and founding Partner of Maurice Johnson & Partners. A 1st class honours graduate in Building Services Engineering at DIT Bolton Street in 1995, Rory completed an MSc in Fire Safety Engineering with Distinction at the University of Ulster in 1996. Over the next five years, Rory worked for leading fire engineering consultancies in London and Dublin where he was responsible for the fire safety design of a large and varied range of projects.

In 2001, Rory was appointed Lecturer in Fire Safety Engineering at Letterkenny Institute of Technology (LyIT), a position he holds to-date, where he is responsible for design and delivery of core fire safety engineering design modules on the honours programme in Fire Safety Engineering. In parallel to this role, Rory continued to be involved in fire engineering consultancy setting up McShane & Associates in 2002 which ran as a successful independent fire consultancy practice up to the formation of MJP in 2009.

Rory is a frequent guest speaker on various aspects of fire engineering at national conferences including the Institute of Building Control of Ireland (IBCI) and the Institute of Fire Engineers (IFE).

Throughout his fire engineering consultancy career, Rory has provided fire engineering consultancy services on a wide range of developments including the British Museum, the Pavilions Shopping Centre, Swords, the Westin Hotel Dublin, the Central Park Office Development, Dublin, Quinn Group Manufacturing and Packaging, Cavan, European Chinese Trading Hub Athlone, and the Midland Prison. Rory is also responsible for the delivery of major fire training briefs at MJP, particularly in the area of healthcare fire safety.
